The Bamboo Pole Coral Support System is a simple and cost-effective coral restoration method designed for shallow sandy seabeds. Bamboo poles are securely driven into the substrate, and horizontal rope lines are attached between the poles to suspend healthy coral fragments above the seafloor. This design reduces sediment burial, improves water circulation, and creates a stable environment that promotes coral survival, growth, and long-term reef recovery.

Select a Suitable Site

Soft sandy seabeds allow bamboo poles to be installed securely while minimizing damage to existing reef structures.

Install the Bamboo Pole

Drive each bamboo pole firmly into the seabed until at least 45 cm (1.5 ft) is buried below the sand. The exposed section should remain approximately 120 cm (4 ft) above the seabed to provide sufficient support for the rope lines.

Install the Rope Lines

Secure two horizontal nylon ropes between adjacent bamboo poles. Position the ropes approximately 20–40 cm apart vertically to maximize water flow and provide adequate spacing for coral fragments.

Attach Coral Fragments

Healthy branching coral fragments are attached individually to the ropes using marine-grade cable ties or stainless steel wire. Maintain sufficient spacing between fragments to reduce competition and encourage uniform colony growth.
